Take a quick tour of Moorlands College with me!
I enjoy teaching; introducing some big questions, helping the students to wrestle with challenging issues, and hopefully sharing some helpful ideas. But really the best thing about teaching is getting to know the students (many of whom I've had the pleasure of teaching during their certificate studies, some as far back as 2017!), hearing their reflections and learning from their experiences. They've come from different contexts and it's great that I can take the ideas I've gained from this time and feed it back into my role with LEAD Asia-Pacific. One of the students had this to say about the Planning for Transformation short course:
"I found it particularly interesting to learn about how leaving project plans adaptable and continuously monitoring and evaluating how well/to what extent the plan still works is important. It was also good to be reminded how difficult it can be to see change in our own lives, and so seeing change in the community we serve takes time too."
Your support of us and our ministry makes it possible for us to continue to support colleagues like this - helping them make a positive difference in the communities where they serve. Thank you!
At home the spring has seen some significant changes. For some years I (Liz) have been keen to get back into working in school, having had some work experience as a Teaching Assistant in Sheffield (a few years ago now!). In February, I excitedly started a part-time TA job at the kids school! This not only combines my love of learning and working with children, but fits alongside my role at church. We’re all continuing to get used to the changes to our family rhythms, but it’s great to be able to make use of skills I’ve developed over the last 20 years in ways that really make a difference.
Over the last few months we both celebrated (low key!) our 40th birthdays, as well as Levi’s 11th! The kids continue to make the most of life - enjoying after school cooking, colouring, and gardening clubs. Read on below to catch up on some of their news. Church is busy but encouraging, with new people coming along and getting involved in various different activities.
We love to hear your news. Please send us a short note and let us know what's new with you, and as always get in touch if you're passing Gloucester on the M5! 🚙
+ the successful running of both the recent Planning for Transformation course and the L20 module in the autumn,
+ a helpful and productive team meeting for Matt and his colleagues in Bangkok in January,
+ Liz’s new job,
+ the kids positive outlook on life, making the most of all opportunities,
+ God’s continued provision for us and our family.
+ for Matt as he meets with colleagues from the Community Development team in Northern Ireland in April to plan how to support teams across the world,
+ for Liz and the kids as they continue to adapt to a new rhythm of life, especially when Matt is away from home with work,
+ that we would balance different, sometimes competing, demands on our time,
+ that Levi would have a great end to Primary School, and feel ready to transition into Secondary School.
Hi all. Do you like the picture of me and the world - I took it on my camera! It was great fun going to see the world at Exeter Cathedral with Bibi - there’s a lot of sea! The last few months have been very busy. Aside from my birthday (we rented out a 5-a-side pitch and played football for 90 mins with loads of friends, it was the best!), I had a great Christmas, loved singing at Young Voices, and have been really enjoying cookery club after school. We’ve made cookies, pancakes, muffins… all healthy though, honest! 🍪
The other highlight was enjoying the World Cup with Daddy! It’s not every day you get to watch a World Cup game on your birthday, especially if it’s in December! Although it was sad to see England lose, I’m already looking forward to the Euros! My crochet and knitting is continuing and Anya and I are really enjoying the slightly warmer weather and getting back out into the garden. See you soon! 😎
Hiya! Year 3 is pretty cool, and so are packed lunches! I can’t believe it won’t be too long and I’ll be in Year 4 - time is flying! I particularly enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day. You can see my costume here in the picture - I went as Lettuce the rabbit from one of my books. Talking of books, Daddy is reading Levi and me the Arthur Ransome books at the moment, we’re on the second one, Swallowdale. I LOVE them! Maybe one day I can go and camp in a valley with Levi! ⛺️
This term I’ve been enjoying being part of movie and colouring club after school, two of my favourite things! I continue to love dogs - have you got a favourite? Mine is a Pomeranian! I keep asking Daddy if we can get one and the answer is always no, though they do say 'If at first you don't succeed...'! Anyway, I’m holding out for at least a cat one day - I figure if I start with asking for a dog I should be able to bargain him down! Always thinking… 🐱
