Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers for us and our work since our last update. Thinking back on your last few months, what are you thankful for? There’s been lots of things for us, here’s a few:
Levi started secondary school at the beginning of September and is really enjoying himself so far. While it involves getting up much earlier and taking a bus across town, he’s enjoying the freedom and getting involved in the jazz band including a couple of performances already!
Anya, although missing her brother initially, has made the most of her first term in year 4. She’s been enjoying practising for Young Voices, something she’s been looking forward to since her brother’s first time, getting ready for a performance in Birmingham in January.
Liz has been settling into a new school year, class and teachers! Since she started her role in February, this is her first experience of having a class from September and so there’s been lots to get her head around but she’s enjoying the challenge.
Matt’s teaching at Moorlands is also going well. This year they have 11 students for the ‘Healthy Community Engagement’ module, with a couple needing to join part of it online and one extra person joining for the final week. With two new staff teaching for the first time and some staff taking over new responsibilities it’s been another year of firsts and changes, but we’re thankful that the students seem happy and everything has gone smoothly so far.
Over the next few months, much of Matt’s time will be taken up preparing for the next LEAD Community of Practice event in Thailand. As we mentioned in our last newsletter this event will be focused on the topic of faith and farming, and we’re expecting 40 or so farmers and community development workers from across the region to join us for the week-long workshop. The training event is based on a Scripture Engagement programme developed in Nigeria by some Wycliffe colleagues, and is designed to connect the Bible with everyday farmers' experiences. It has two primary goals, to help those who work on the land to:
1) engage with all of the Bible in the language that they use as they work on their farms or with their animals, and
2) make a connection between their faith in God and their day to day work, so that their whole life is impacted and reflects God’s greatness in everything they do and say.
Given that farming is a part of the daily lives of most of the marginalised language communities with which Wycliffe works around the world, this programme provides a fantastic opportunity to impact people’s everyday lived experiences. The event also presents a great chance to further grow our relationship with another organisation in Thailand, ECHO Asia - an agriculture NGO and network. We’ve worked with ECHO on a few projects over the years, and so it’s great that on this occasion they will be hosting the training at their demonstration farm and conference centre, providing hands-on experiences for participants to apply their learning! If you’re interested in reading more about the event, take a look at the event website here: https://www.leadimpact.org/event-details/february-2024-faith-and-farming-training
This will be the first in-person Community of Practice event we’ve run since 2019, so there's lots of preparation needed, especially while working with another organisation. In late November Matt will be visiting and working on plans for this event with his colleague in Florida. Please be praying for that trip, as well as all the other hard work that others are doing to make the training as relevant and helpful for people as possible.

+ a good summer holiday, including time away with both our families.
+ smooth starts at school for all.
+ successful running of the Multilingual Education Conference in Bangkok, where lots of Matt’s colleagues were involved (but not Matt this time, due to his teaching commitments, sniff).
+ our church small group and youth group - both are going well, growing and are an encouragement to us all.
+ for us all as we look to balance the inevitable busyness of the next few months, especially while Matt is away,
+ for the community of practice coordination team planning and preparing for the faith and farming workshop,
+ for peace in the many conflicts we see around the world,
+ for new regular financial supporters to join our team and be involved in supporting our work around the world.
Hi! I am now a Year 7! I have really enjoyed starting at Crypt School this September (apart from getting up early!). I take the number 10 bus through the centre of Gloucester with friends every day. I have had fun meeting lots of new students and teachers and starting some new subjects, such as German, Spanish and Drama. I get to choose which language I would like to go on to study after trying them for a few weeks. At school I have been continuing with clarinet lessons and have joined the Jazz Band! I have already performed at the Open Day and in the Autumn Concert, which Mum came to watch. I also attended the first Christian Union meeting. We had cookies and games together as well as a bit of prayer!
The summer was fun, though seems a long time ago already! Anya and I had a few days at Nana and Grandad’s new house on our own. We did trampolining and visited a bird of prey centre - we learnt a lot about vultures that day! We also squeezed in a few days at Bibi’s house in Devon and made it to the beach while the sun was shining!
At church I have started going to the Youth group socials (I will join the small group, along with the other Year 7s, after Christmas). My first social was really good and I took along my best friend from primary school. We had snacks and games together. Better go, I’ve got Pokemon cards to organise!
Hi everyone! I had a lovely summer and a fun birthday. I am now 8 years old and in Year 4! I am really enjoying Year 4 so far. I am loving practising for Young Voices and can’t wait for the performance in January! Mummy, Daddy and Levi are coming to see me sing as a treat for Mummy’s birthday! I am also enjoying starting swimming lessons at school, playing football in a lunchtime club and I have recently started having piano lessons at school. It’s really fun. At home I still enjoy drawing, colouring and craft, all accompanied by music! That reminds me, I’m hoping to get a singing part in our school pantomime, ‘Cinderella Acapella’!
I had a great time at my Crazy Golf party for turning 8 in the summer holidays. My two best friends came and then we had a party lunch and played at my house. I really enjoyed going to the Lake District with Nana and Grandad, going walking and cycling and visiting the Beatrix Potter Experience. Wales with Bibi was also lots of fun, especially having my first go in a hot tub! I’d better go and look after my imaginary dogs/Fred the Cumbrian tortoise (my favourite toy)! Byeee!
